Katiba Committee First Congregation Update
The Katiba Committee shares its first congregation update on the constitution review process, including its mandate, progress to date, and ways the MHC community can pray, participate, and share feedback.
The Mamlaka Hill Chapel (MHC) Katiba Committee extends greetings in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.
Over the past several years, the church has engaged in extensive discussions, consultations, and reflection regarding the governance and future direction of Mamlaka Hill Chapel. Through these engagements, a broad consensus emerged on the need to undertake a comprehensive review of the Church Constitution.
This review has been driven by several important considerations, including the significant growth and evolution of the church, the need to address longstanding governance and operational matters, and the desire to establish a stronger constitutional framework that will support the church's continued growth and effectiveness.
The objective is to ensure that our governance structures, policies, and practices remain aligned with the mission, vision, and values that God has entrusted to the church, while positioning the church to faithfully serve future generations.
In March 2026, the Elders Court resolved to establish a committee to steer the constitution review process. Following the proceedings of the meeting held on 11 April 2026 at MHC Ruaka, the Elders Court established the Katiba Committee on 9 May 2026 and tasked it with leading a comprehensive, consultative, and inclusive process to develop a new constitution for the church.
The Katiba Committee comprises 15 pastoral and lay members drawn from the various MHC campuses, including the Acting Bishop of Mamlaka Hill Chapel, Richard Munala.
The Committee remains committed to keeping the MHC community informed at key stages of the process and fostering broad, constructive participation as we collectively discern the most appropriate governance and constitution document to support MHC's God-ordained mission and the life and future of the MHC community.
Attached is the Katiba Committee’s first congregation update document. It provides an overview of the constitution review process, the Committee’s mandate, progress made so far, and ways the Mamlaka Hill Chapel community can participate through prayer, feedback, and continued engagement.
Key deliverables so far
Inception report: Provides the Committee's understanding of its Terms of Reference and roadmap. The report has been submitted to and approved by the Elders Court.
Work plan: Organizes the work into phases, workstreams, and deliverables.
Sub-committees: Working sub-committees have been formed around the Committee's key outputs.
Draft church government model options paper: Explains the main church government model options and their biblical and contextual underpinnings.
Draft diagnostic framework: Provides a basis and structure for robust analysis of constitutional and governance gaps.
Draft stakeholder engagement framework: Guides engagement with church stakeholders and supports an inclusive, transparent, well-governed, legally compliant review process aligned with MHC's mission, values, and long-term sustainability.
Draft communications plan: Guides the Committee's broader communications and stakeholder engagement.
How you can support
First, continue to pray and commit this process to God, who is the author and perfector of our faith (Hebrew 12:2) and to whom the church, his household, belongs to (1 Timothy 3:15).
